国际晶体学界同仁对陈创天先生的逝世表示深切哀悼

  Dear colleagues:

  I should send a sad news that Prof. Chuantian CHEN of Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, CAS was passed away yesterday October 31th morning at 10:57 who won the Laudise prize on 2013. He had invented LBO,KBBF UV and DUV nonlinear optical crystals and proposed the anion group model for the exploration of new nonlinear optical crystals. His passed away is a great loss for Chinese Crystal Society as well as for the world!

  (很遗憾向大家宣布一个令人悲伤的消息,曾获得过2013年Laudise奖的中国科学院理化技术研究所陈创天教授于2018年10月31日上午9时57分逝世。陈创天教授发现了KBBF,LBO紫外和深紫外非线性光学晶体,并提出“阴离子基团理论”用于指导新型非线性光学材料的探索。他的辞世是中国乃至全世界晶体界的巨大损失。)

  Our Japanese society of crystal growth should send our sincere hert to Chinise community of crystal growth and his family. The passed away of Prof. Chen is a great loss not only for chinese community but world one. Let me ask you to transfer our sincere sand mind to your community and his family.

  Another big loss for our science. On behalf of the Spanish community of crystal growth, I joint you in offering my condolences to the family and relatives of Professor Chuangtian CHEN and to the whole community of crystal growth. He was great! Let's hope that young Chinese scientists will replace the contribution of China to our field.

  It is sad that another crystal grower from the older generation has passed away. I remember very well the presentation of the Laudise prize to Prof. Chen and the amazing results he and his group achieved on non-linear optical crystals.

  Please pass my condolences, also on behalf of the Dutch crystal growers, to his family, friends and colleagues.

  Another big loss in our community. I ask Prof. Jiyang Wang to convey my sympathy to family and colleagues of Prof. Chuantian Chen. I will remember him every time I open the book on NLO materials that he donated me few years ago.

  I am so sad to hear that Prof. Chen left us on Oct. 31

  People in the world will not forget the name of a great scientist who invented many useful nonlinear crystals.

  It was a great shock when Prof. Chen presented a talk on BBO at CLEO in 1980’s,and people did not believe at once.

  Fortunately, I had a chance to see him 1n 1999, and since then started the collaboration on a new crystal KBBF.

  This collaboration is a great honor to me.

  We verified many splendid properties of KBBF, and explored the new frontier in the VUV region..

  In the field of photoelectron spectroscopy, a evolutional change occurred by the light source with KBBF.

  I remember vividly the modest smile of Prof. Chen. I send my sincere wishes to his family.
